Tarpan over the bank of river Ganga at Garh-Mukteshwar, Garh Ganga.
Incllusions:-
Note:- The poojan will be conducted online over video conferencing app live from Braj ghat, Garh Mukteshwar.
Among the ancient Ganga teerthas of northern India, Garh Mukteshwar holds a singular distinction. The Shiva Purana records that Lord Shiva himself dwells here as Mukteshwara, the Giver of Liberation, and that souls offered ritual worship at this ghat attain moksha. For families who live in Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Meerut, or anywhere across the NCR region, this ancient teertha on the banks of the Ganga is closer than Haridwar and equally potent in its spiritual authority.
This product combines two complementary ancestral rituals into a single, comprehensive online ceremony: Pitru Tarpan and Yagya (Havan). Together they fulfil the twin obligations that our scriptures describe — water offerings that nourish the departed souls in their subtle plane, and fire offerings that purify and liberate them. The ceremony is conducted at Brij Ghat, Garh Mukteshwar, by our experienced pandits, and you participate live via a video call from wherever you are in the world.
Learn more about Garh Mukteshwar as a pilgrimage site
Tarpan comes from the Sanskrit root “trp,” meaning to satisfy or to nourish. When we perform Tarpan, we offer water mixed with sesame seeds (til), barley (jau), and Kusha grass to our ancestors across three generations — father, grandfather, great-grandfather — and their corresponding female relatives. The Garuda Purana states that ancestors who receive Tarpan regularly do not suffer thirst in the Pitru Loka, the realm where departed souls await their next journey.
The significance of the water source cannot be overstated. Tarpan performed with ordinary water carries merit, but Tarpan performed with Ganga Jal carries exponentially greater spiritual weight. The Ganga at Garh Mukteshwar — locally called Garh Ganga — flows with the same sanctity as at Haridwar. The water here has washed the feet of countless pilgrims over millennia. When your ancestors receive this water through the ritual intention of the pandit, the merit is profound and far-reaching.
The Yagya, or Havan, is a fire ritual in which carefully selected herbs, grains, ghee, and specific samidha (sacred wood) are offered into a consecrated fire while Vedic mantras are chanted. The smoke of a properly performed Havan is considered to carry offerings directly to the subtle realms where ancestors reside. The Vayu Purana describes how the fragrance of Havan smoke reaches the Pitru Loka and brings relief and happiness to souls dwelling there.
For ancestral welfare specifically, the Yagya includes the chanting of the Pitru Sukta from the Rig Veda, invocations from the Yajur Veda that address ancestors by lineage name (Gotra), and repeated offerings of black sesame (black til) which is traditionally associated with the Pitru realm. The combination of Tarpan and Yagya in a single ceremony creates a complete ritual circuit — water offerings nourish, fire offerings liberate.
Garh Mukteshwar sits approximately 100 kilometers northeast of Delhi on the banks of the Ganga in Hapur district, Uttar Pradesh. By road, it is roughly a 2 to 3 hour journey from central Delhi, making it significantly closer than Haridwar (which is approximately 220 kilometers) or Prayagraj (over 600 kilometers).
But proximity alone does not explain why generations of Delhi families have come to Garh Mukteshwar to perform their ancestral rites. The deeper reason lies in the spiritual geography of this place. Ancient texts identify Garh Mukteshwar as one of the five primary Ganga teerthas of Uttarakhand Kshetra, alongside Haridwar, Rishikesh, Gangotri, and Yamunotri. The presiding deity, Lord Mukteshwara Shiva, is explicitly named in the Shiva Purana as the grantor of mukti — liberation from the cycle of rebirth.
Brij Ghat, where our pandits perform the ceremony, is the main ritual ghat of Garh Mukteshwar. It is here that the famous Kartik Mela is held every year, drawing hundreds of thousands of pilgrims. The ghat itself is ancient, its stone steps worn smooth by centuries of ritual use. Standing at Brij Ghat as the morning puja begins and the Ganga catches the first light of sunrise is an experience that pilgrims describe as transforming. For your ancestors, this is the water you are offering them.
The online format was developed in response to the practical reality that many families cannot always travel to a teertha site when the need arises — whether due to distance, age, health, work obligations, or the difficulty of coordinating family travel. The online ceremony does not compromise the ritual’s validity. What matters in Vedic ritual is the Sankalp — the formal declaration of intent — and the Gotra, the lineage name that identifies the family and its ancestors. Both are preserved in full in the online format.
This combined Tarpan and Yagya package is appropriate for a wide range of situations. Families who have recently lost a member and wish to perform ongoing ancestral care beyond the initial Shraddha period will find this comprehensive. Those who were unable to perform Pitrupaksha rituals in any given year — due to travel constraints, work pressure, or family circumstances — can use this package to fulfill that obligation at another time, since the Ganga’s Teertha Shakti remains constant throughout the year.
People living abroad who wish to perform ancestral rituals for parents, grandparents, or other relatives now departed find the online format particularly valuable. The Sankalp names you directly as the karta (performer) regardless of your physical location, ensuring that the spiritual merit accrues to you and your family fully.
Yes. The validity of any Vedic ritual rests on three foundations: the correct Sankalp (declaration of intent), the proper Gotra and lineage identification, and the qualification of the performing pandit. All three are fully preserved in the online format. The location — Brij Ghat, Garh Mukteshwar — is physically present in the ceremony. You are the karta who has commissioned the ritual; the pandit is your representative at the teertha. This is the same principle by which pandits have performed rituals on behalf of absent patrons throughout Hindu history.
You need to provide: your full name, your Gotra (lineage name), and the names of the ancestors you wish to include in the ritual. For Tarpan, we can include up to three generations on the paternal side and one generation on the maternal side. If you do not know your Gotra, our pandit can guide you through identifying it based on your family’s regional and community background.
Yes, and Pitrupaksha is considered the most auspicious time to perform Tarpan and Yagya for ancestors. During the sixteen days of Pitrupaksha (Mahalaya Paksha), the Pitru Dwara — the gates between the mortal world and the ancestral realm — are said to be fully open, amplifying the power of all ancestral rituals. We strongly recommend booking well in advance if you wish to schedule during Pitrupaksha, as demand is significantly higher during this period.
Tarpan is a water offering that provides nourishment and relief to the subtle bodies of ancestors dwelling in the Pitru Loka. It satisfies their thirst and hunger in the ritual sense. Yagya (Havan) is a fire offering that purifies the karmic record and prays for the liberation of the ancestor’s soul. The two rituals work on different levels — Tarpan for sustenance, Yagya for liberation — which is why performing them together is considered more complete than performing either alone.
We recommend booking at least three to five days in advance for regular dates, and at least two to three weeks in advance for Pitrupaksha, Amavasya, or Purnima dates, which are the most auspicious and highest-demand slots. After booking, you will receive confirmation within 24 hours with your scheduled ceremony date and the video call link.
