Online Pind Daan Poojan at Garh Mukteshwar. Deep Daan at Garh Ganga over Braj ghat.
Inclusions:-
Note:- The poojan is conducted at Garh Mukteshwar. You have to present live over video conferencing apps.
Of the many ways we honour our ancestors in the Hindu tradition, Pind Daan and Deep Daan stand apart as two of the most complete and tender acts of remembrance. Pind Daan — the offering of rice flour balls — feeds the subtle body of the ancestor and releases them from hunger and lack in the realm where they wait. Deep Daan — the offering of lighted lamps — illuminates their path, dissolving the darkness of uncertainty and guiding them toward peace and liberation.
Together, these two rituals address both the immediate need of the ancestor — to be nourished and recognised — and the ultimate spiritual need: to be guided toward their next journey. This package combines both in a single ceremony performed at Brij Ghat, Garh Mukteshwar, on the banks of the Garh Ganga, and conducted live via video call so that families anywhere in the world can participate and fulfil their filial duty.
Explore Garh Mukteshwar as a pilgrimage destination
The word “Pind” refers to the rice ball mixed with sesame seeds, honey, barley flour, and sometimes black lentils that forms the central offering in the ancestral rite. According to the Garuda Purana, which contains the most detailed account of the afterlife in Hindu scripture, the soul after death passes through a transitional period during which it depends entirely on the living family for nourishment. The Pinda provides this nourishment in the ritual dimension, satisfying the ancestor and accumulating merit for the family performing the rite.
The tradition of Pind Daan is not merely symbolic. It is understood in the Vedic tradition as a genuinely effective act of care for the departed. Just as a child fed in the womb grows because the mother eats, the ancestor in the Pitru Loka is genuinely sustained by the Pinda offered with proper Sankalp, Gotra recitation, and mantra. The quality of the teertha where the Pinda is offered adds further potency — which is why Gaya, Prayagraj, and Garh Mukteshwar are all identified in scripture as particularly powerful sites for this ritual.
Deep Daan is the ritual donation of lighted oil lamps to the Ganga. In the Padma Purana, the significance of lighting lamps in Kartik month is described in extraordinary detail, but the tradition of offering lamps to the river for the benefit of ancestors extends far beyond any single month or festival. The lamp — a Deepa — carries a specific meaning in this context: it illuminates the path of the soul in the dark passages between death and rebirth.
The Ganga is considered the ultimate destination for these lamps because she flows between worlds. In Hindu cosmology, rivers — and the Ganga above all — are not confined to the physical plane. The Ganga that flows through Garh Mukteshwar also flows through the Pitru Loka. A lamp set upon her waters at Brij Ghat carries its light into that realm, reaching the ancestor who is remembered in the Sankalp of the ritual.
Garh Mukteshwar is an ancient teertha located in Hapur district, Uttar Pradesh, approximately 100 kilometers from Delhi. The Ganga here is called Garh Ganga in local tradition, and the presiding deity of the town is Lord Mukteshwara — a form of Shiva worshipped specifically for the granting of liberation to souls. The Shiva Purana states that performing Shraddha, Tarpan, or any ancestral rite at Garh Mukteshwar under Shiva’s blessing carries liberation not just for the individual ancestor but for the entire lineage up to seven generations.
For families in Delhi and the surrounding NCR region — Noida, Gurgaon, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, Meerut — Garh Mukteshwar offers something that Prayagraj and Haridwar cannot: relative proximity. A journey to Haridwar from Delhi takes four to five hours and often involves crowds that can make a deeply personal ritual feel overwhelming. Garh Mukteshwar, by contrast, is quieter, more intimate, and can be reached in two to three hours. For online ceremonies, this proximity is less relevant — but it matters to those who want to know that their pandit is performing the ritual at a genuine, physically accessible teertha site rather than an abstract location.
The online format preserves the full ritual integrity of Pind Daan and Deep Daan. The Sankalp — the formal declaration of intent that identifies the karta (the person for whom the ritual is performed) and the ancestors being honoured — is taken live on camera at Brij Ghat. You watch the entire ceremony unfold in real time, from the preparation of the Pindas and the lighting of the diyas to their final offering on the Ganga.
This combined Pind Daan and Deep Daan package is particularly suited to families who have experienced a recent bereavement and wish to perform ongoing ancestral care, those who missed the Pitrupaksha period in a given year and wish to compensate, and individuals living outside India who want to ensure their ancestral duties are fulfilled at a genuine Ganga teertha.
It is also an appropriate choice for families performing their annual Shraddha ritual who want to go beyond simple Tarpan and include the more substantial offerings of Pinda and lamp. And for those whose parents or grandparents expressed a wish to have rites performed at the Ganga after their passing, this package honours that wish even if the family cannot travel.
Yes. The spiritual efficacy of Pind Daan depends on the correct Sankalp — the formal declaration naming the karta and the ancestors — the proper preparation of the Pinda, and the qualification of the pandit performing the rite. In the online format, the Sankalp is taken live in your presence (on video), the Pindas are prepared with Ganga Jal at Brij Ghat, and our pandits are trained in the specific Vedic procedures for ancestral rites. All essential elements are fully preserved.
Tarpan is a water libation — you offer water with sesame and barley to the ancestors, reciting their names and Gotra. Pind Daan is a more substantial offering — rice flour balls prepared with sesame, barley, and Ganga Jal — that represents the physical body being given back to the ancestor in a symbolic and spiritually potent form. Tarpan satisfies the ancestor’s thirst; Pind Daan satisfies their deeper need for sustenance and recognition. Both are traditionally performed together in Shraddha ceremonies, and our package combines them accordingly.
Deep Daan — the offering of lighted lamps — is particularly associated with guiding souls through the dark passage between death and their next life. It is complementary to Pind Daan in the same way that nourishment and light are complementary: one feeds, the other guides. Together, they address both the immediate state of the ancestor and their longer journey. The combination is especially recommended at riverbank teerthas like Garh Mukteshwar where the lamp set on the water carries its light along the current.
A standard ceremony covers three generations on the paternal side (father, grandfather, great-grandfather) and their wives, plus one generation on the maternal side (mother’s father). If you wish to include additional ancestors — great-great-grandparents, uncles and aunts, or others — this can be accommodated at no additional charge as long as you provide their names. Our pandit will ensure each named ancestor is included in the Sankalp and receives their individual offering.
Amavasya (the new moon day) and Pitrupaksha (the sixteen-day ancestral fortnight) are considered the most auspicious times for Pind Daan and Deep Daan. The 13th day after a death (Terahi), the one-month anniversary, and the annual death anniversary (Barsi) are also traditional occasions. However, ancestral rites can be performed on any day — the Ganga’s Teertha Shakti does not diminish on ordinary days. If you wish to align the ceremony with an auspicious date, share your preferred timeframe and we will suggest the nearest suitable date based on the Panchang.
