The Power of a Remote Offering in a Sacred Time
The Sanctity of Gaya and Pitrupaksha: The Puranas teach us that performing Pind Daan in Gaya during Pitrupaksha is the ultimate offering, capable of liberating generations from the cycle of rebirth. The combined spiritual energy of this sacred place and this auspicious time is immense. Your vow (Sankalpa), even when taken from afar, directs this energy towards your ancestors, fulfilling your duty and bringing you their profound blessings.
A Ritual Performed for You: This service is designed for those who are unable to travel due to distance, health, or other commitments. We act as your spiritual representatives, ensuring that every rite is conducted meticulously according to Vedic scriptures in your name.
How Our Online Service Works:
Sankalpa (The Sacred Vow): After you book the service, our pandit will contact you via phone or video call. They will guide you through the Sankalpa, taking your name, gotra, and the names of the ancestors for whom the puja is intended.
Performance in Gaya: Our priest in Gaya will then perform the complete Pind Daan and Shraddha ceremony at the sacred site, making the offerings on your behalf.
Online Pooja: You will join the live pooja via video call.

Of all the sacred acts described in Hindu scriptures for the welfare of departed ancestors, Pind Daan at Gaya stands alone in the power attributed to it. The Vayu Purana, the Agni Purana, and the Mahabharata all speak of Gaya as the place where a single Pind Daan offering liberates entire generations of a family’s ancestors, reaching back twenty-one generations in the male lineage according to some accounts. This is not an ordinary ceremony — it is one of the most spiritually significant acts available within the Hindu tradition.
Pitrupaksha 2026 runs from September 26 to October 10. These fifteen days, dedicated entirely to ancestral rites, represent the single most auspicious period in the year for performing Pind Daan. When Pind Daan is performed at Gaya during Pitrupaksha, the combination of the most powerful Pind Daan location and the most auspicious period for ancestral rites creates a ceremony whose merit the scriptures describe as beyond ordinary measure.
This package makes that ceremony accessible to families everywhere through a live video call, with our qualified pandit performing every step of the Pind Daan at Gaya on your behalf, with your name and your ancestors’ names invoked throughout.
Pind Daan and Tarpan are both ancestral rites, but they are distinct ceremonies serving distinct purposes. Understanding the difference helps families make the right choice for their specific situation.
Tarpan is the offering of water — typically mixed with sesame seeds and sometimes with flowers or milk — to the ancestors while reciting their names and specific mantras. It is a regular ritual that can be performed daily, on Amavasya, during Pitrupaksha, or on the death anniversary of an ancestor. Tarpan nourishes the subtle body of the ancestor, keeping them sustained in the realms they currently inhabit. It is an ongoing act of care — like providing regular food and water to someone living far away.
Pind Daan is a deeper and more complete ceremony. The pinda — a ball formed from cooked rice, sesame, honey, milk, and other sacred ingredients — represents a subtle body offered to the ancestor. The Vedic understanding is that when this pinda is offered with correct mantras and intention at a powerful sacred site, it provides the ancestor with a form through which they can receive the full force of the offering and, at sites like Gaya, achieve liberation from the cycle of rebirth.
The Gaya Mahatmya texts specifically describe how the pindas offered at Gaya’s sacred Vedis (offering platforms) are received directly by the Pitra Devatas, who then ensure the liberation of the named ancestors. The scriptural guarantee attached to Gaya Pind Daan is unique in the entire tradition of ancestral rites. No other form of Tarpan or offering carries the same specific promise of moksha for the named ancestors.
Tarpan, while important and beneficial, does not carry this liberating function. It sustains and comforts the ancestor; Pind Daan liberates them. For families who wish to do more than sustain their ancestors — who wish to actively work toward the ancestors’ liberation — Pind Daan is the ceremony to perform.
For a complete understanding of how Pind Daan is performed and its full significance, we recommend reading: How to Perform Pind Daan Poojan.
Gaya in Bihar is the site most associated with Pind Daan in all of Hindu tradition. Lord Vishnu’s footprint is enshrined at the Vishnupad Temple here, and the Gaya Mahatmya texts describe how Lord Vishnu himself promised that ancestors offered pindas at Gaya would receive liberation. The Phalgu River at Gaya, though often partially dry, holds the sacred power described in the Ramayana — it is at the Phalgu that Lord Rama himself is said to have performed Pind Daan for his father King Dasharatha.
The specific Vedis (sacred offering platforms) at Gaya — including the Vishnupad Vedi, the Phalgu River Vedi, and numerous others spread across the Gaya field — each carry specific promises for the liberation of different categories of ancestors. A ceremony that covers the key Vedis addresses the widest range of ancestral situations.
During Pitrupaksha, the priests at Gaya conduct continuous ceremonies across all the major Vedis, and the combined spiritual energy of thousands of simultaneous ceremonies creates an atmosphere of concentrated ancestral liberation that cannot be replicated at any other time or place.
Pitrupaksha 2026 begins on September 26 with the Purnima Shradh and concludes on October 10 with Sarva Pitru Amavasya, the most significant day of the entire fortnight. During these fifteen days:
Slots for Pitrupaksha at Gaya fill up quickly, as families from across India and abroad book their ceremonies months in advance. We recommend booking this package well before September to secure your preferred date during the fortnight.
The online format removes the barrier of distance while preserving every element of the ceremony’s spiritual integrity. Here is the complete process:
To ensure the ceremony proceeds smoothly and that your ancestors are honoured correctly, please prepare the following before our team contacts you:
If any of this information is not available, do not be concerned — our pandits are experienced in working with families where some details are unknown. The sankalpa can be constructed to include all known and unknown ancestors.
All three are among the most sacred Pind Daan sites in Hindu tradition, but Gaya is specifically described in the scriptures as the most powerful for ancestral liberation. The Gaya Mahatmya texts and references in the Mahabharata describe how Lord Vishnu himself granted liberation to ancestors offered pindas at Gaya. The combination of Vishnupad’s presence and the specific sanctity of the Gaya Kshetra makes it uniquely powerful. Prayagraj is exceptional for Pind Daan at the Sangam; Gaya is exceptional for the depth of liberation it grants to the specific souls being offered pindas.
Yes. Both paternal and maternal ancestors can be included in a single Gaya Pind Daan ceremony. The sankalpa is structured to address both lineages. Many families specifically choose the comprehensive Gaya package for this reason — the ability to honour ancestors from both sides of the family in one ceremony is particularly valuable during Pitrupaksha.
It is never too late to perform Pind Daan for ancestors. The scriptures contain no provision for a time limit on this duty — in fact, the Pind Daan performed after a long delay, with genuine remorse and sincere intention, is described as equally powerful to one performed immediately after death. The soul of your grandparent receives the offering whenever it is made. What matters is the intention and the correct performance of the ceremony.
During Pitrupaksha, the Pitra Devatas — the divine custodians of ancestral welfare — are understood to be particularly accessible and attentive. The fortnight is specifically set aside for ancestral rites in the Hindu calendar, and the combined attention of countless families performing ceremonies simultaneously creates an amplified spiritual field. Pind Daan at Gaya is powerful at any time of year, but during Pitrupaksha, the conjunction of sacred timing and sacred location creates optimal conditions for ancestral liberation.
Yes. We accommodate families in different time zones regularly. The ceremony at Gaya during Pitrupaksha is performed in the morning, which may correspond to late night or early morning for families in Western countries. We recommend that overseas families plan to participate for at least the sankalpa and main Pind Daan portions. If the time difference makes full participation difficult, we record the entire ceremony and share it with the family along with photos and documentation of the ceremony completion.

I came across this service online while searching for pind daan in gaya and i would highly recommend these guys. After booking, I just had to wait for the date of pind daan. They made all the arrangements in gaya themselves. They shared the zoom meeting link. I just had to join and listen to the pandit during the ceremony. Another person was sitting on behalf of me for doing the pooja. Within an hour the pooja was completed. I was thoroughly satisfied. Good pandit, good ethics and great team. I recommend these people.
