Shradh in Gaya gives liberation. The ancient city of Gaya is situated on the banks of the holy Falgu river. According to Vishnu Purana, by donating Pind Daan in Gaya, ancestors get salvation. Along with the Pitrupaksha, people reach here throughout the year with the wish of salvation. According to scholars, the circular form of an object is called a pind. The balls made by kneading barley or rice flour to offer to the soul of the deceased are called Pind. Lord Shri Ram donated Pind in the Falgu river for the first time.

According to the Vedic tradition and Hindu beliefs, the tradition of “Shradh” has been going on since time immemorial. It is believed that every human being has dev debt, guru debt, and pitru (parental) debt. The only way to be saved from Pitrun is for rituals to be done on the Pitru Paksha after the parents have died.

Gaya is considered the city of Vishnu. This is called the “land of salvation.” It is also discussed in the Vishnu Purana and Vayu Purana. According to Vishnu Purana, by donating Pind Daan in Gaya, ancestors get salvation and go to heaven. It is believed that Vishnu himself is present here in the form of Pitru Devta, hence it is also called “Pitru Tirtha.”

Gayawal Panda Samaj says that while describing the importance of the Falgu river in the Vayupuran, it has been called Falgu Tirtha and is considered more sacred than the Ganges river.

For the first time, Lord Shri Ram donated Pind in the Falgu river. In the Vanparva of the Mahabharata, there is a mention of Pind Daan by Bhishma Pitamah and the Pandavas also.

There are mainly three functions in the main method of Shradh: Pind Daan, Tarpan, and Brahmin Bhoj. Mixing black sesame, barley, kusha, and white flowers in water is done ritually. It is believed that the ancestors are satisfied with this. After this, Brahmin Bhoj is served.

According to the pandas, the position of ancestors is said to be very high in the scriptures. He is said to be far from the moon and higher than the gods. The category of ancestors includes all ancestors, including deceased ancestors, mother, father, grandfather, grandmother, maternal grandfather, and grandmother. In a broader sense, dead gurus and acharyas also come under the category of ancestors.

The Pind Daan on the banks of the river Falgu is considered to be the best. The process of Pind Daan starts on the banks of the Punpun river.

It is said that earlier there were 360 altars of different names in Gaya where Pind Daan was performed. Of these, only 48 are left now. By the way, many religious organisations are demanding the discovery of those old altars. At present, on these altars, people offer tarpan and pind daan to ancestors.

On the altars here, it is considered necessary to donate pind to Vishnupad temple, on the banks of the rivers Falgu and Akshayvat. Apart from this, Vaitarni, Pretshila, Sitakund, Nagkund, Pandushila, Ramshila, Mangalagauri, Kagbali, etc. are also important for Pind Daan.

If the souls of ancestors have not attained salvation, then their souls keep wandering. Due to this, many obstacles also come in the lives of their children, so one must come to Gaya and do the Pind Daan of the ancestors.
