The duty to honour our ancestors does not diminish with distance. Whether you are living in another city, another country, or simply unable to travel to a pilgrimage site — your love for those who came before you, and your wish to fulfil the sacred obligation of Shradh, deserves to be honoured fully and correctly. The Online Shradh Poojan at Garh Ganga, Garhmukteshwar makes this possible.
A qualified pandit from Prayag Pandits travels to Brij Ghat on the banks of the Ganga at Garhmukteshwar and performs the complete Shradh ceremony in your name, while you participate live via video call from wherever you are in the world. The ritual is the same. The mantras are the same. The Ganga is the same. The only difference is that you join from your home, your office, or wherever life has placed you — and your ancestors receive the same love and the same prayers.
Garhmukteshwar, fondly known as Garh Ganga, is one of the most ancient and revered pilgrimage sites in Uttar Pradesh. The town sits on the western banks of the Ganga and takes its name from Lord Mukteshwarnath — the Shiva who grants mukti, liberation. The Ganga here flows with the same sanctity she carries at Haridwar, from which she descends to bless this ancient tirtha.
The scriptures, including the Mahabharata, speak of Garhmukteshwar as a place of great spiritual merit. Performing ancestral rites here — Shradh, Pind Daan, and Tarpan — is considered equivalent in merit to performing them at the great pilgrimage cities of northern India. For families in Delhi NCR and surrounding regions, Garhmukteshwar is the nearest major Ganga tirtha, making it a deeply practical choice.
Brij Ghat, the main ghat of Garhmukteshwar, is where all our ceremonies are conducted. It is a serene, sacred stretch of the Ganga where the atmosphere is peaceful and conducive to deep prayer. Our pandits know this ghat intimately and perform the rites here with care and full attention, whether or not the family is physically present.
To learn more about this sacred town and its spiritual significance, read our guide on the mahatva and importance of Garhmukteshwar.
It is natural to wonder: does an online ceremony carry the same spiritual weight as being present? This is a question our pandits address with both scriptural authority and genuine compassion.
The answer, rooted in the tradition of Vedic ritual, is yes. The Sankalp — the formal declaration of intent — is what formally connects a ceremony to the person on whose behalf it is performed. When our pandit takes the Sankalp in your name, with your gotra and the name of your departed ancestor, the ritual becomes yours. The Ganga is present. The mantras are recited correctly. The pindas are offered. The tarpan is poured. Geography is a modern concern; the tradition has always understood that the sincere intention of a family, combined with correct ritual performance, is what reaches the pitrus.
The Garuda Purana and Vishnu Purana both affirm that the wellbeing of departed souls depends on the sincerity of the offering, not on the physical proximity of the family member. Countless families — NRIs living abroad, working professionals who cannot take leave, elderly individuals who cannot travel — have fulfilled their ancestral obligations through this service and found deep peace in having done so correctly.
After placing your order, our team will reach out within 24 hours. We will ask for the name of the departed, their relationship to you, your gotra (family lineage), and your preferred date and time for the ceremony. We will also confirm the video call platform you prefer (WhatsApp, Google Meet, or Zoom). If you are unsure of your gotra, please tell us — our pandit will guide you.
A day before the ceremony, your assigned pandit will call you to explain what will happen and answer any questions. He will tell you what, if anything, you should keep ready on your end — typically, a small lamp and some flowers are nice to have, though not mandatory. He will also confirm the exact time the video call will begin.
At the agreed time, the pandit arrives at Brij Ghat and begins the video call. You will see the Ganga in front of you — the morning light on the water, the sound of the river, the ghat stones under the pandit’s feet. The ceremony has begun.
The pandit takes the Sankalp: a formal Vedic declaration in which he announces your name, your gotra, the name(s) of your departed ancestors, and the intention that this Shradh be performed for their peace and liberation. You are invited to repeat the key phrases after the pandit if you wish. This is the moment that formally binds the ritual to your family.
Standing at the edge of the Ganga at Brij Ghat, the pandit offers tarpan — water mixed with black sesame, barley, and kusha grass — to each ancestral generation by name. You watch this live. Many families find this the most moving part of the ceremony.
Pindas — the symbolic food offering for the pitrus — are prepared and offered one by one with the appropriate mantras for each ancestral generation. The pindas are then immersed in the Ganga.
Food is offered to a Brahmin on your behalf. The ceremony closes with shanti prayers for the departed and for your family’s wellbeing. After the call ends, the pandit will share photographs and a short video of the ceremony, and prasad will be dispatched to your address.
If you are able to travel to Garhmukteshwar in person, our in-person Shradh Poojan at Garh Ganga package is also available at the same price point, and your pandit will meet you at Brij Ghat.
If you would like to understand the Shradh ritual more deeply — its philosophy, the significance of each step, and how the tradition understands the relationship between the living and the departed — we recommend reading our guide on how to perform Pind Daan Poojan.
We understand that choosing someone to perform Shradh on behalf of your family is not a casual decision. This is a deeply personal, deeply important ritual. When you entrust it to Prayag Pandits, here is what you can expect:
Your ancestors gave you everything. This is one meaningful way to give something back.
Yes. The spiritual validity of Shradh depends on the Sankalp (intent declaration) and the correct performance of the rituals — both of which happen in full at Brij Ghat. The pandit performs the ceremony physically at the Ganga. Your participation via video call connects you to that ceremony in real time. The tradition recognises that the sincere intent of the family, combined with correct ritual, is what reaches the pitrus.
Absolutely. When you share your preferred date and time, we schedule the ceremony at a time that works for you. Families in the US, UK, Australia, and the Middle East regularly participate via video call, and we accommodate different time zones when scheduling.
This is more common than you might think. Our pandit will guide you through a brief process to determine the correct gotra based on your family lineage and region. In some cases, where the gotra is genuinely unknown, there is a standard scriptural provision for proceeding with the ceremony using a general lineage — our pandit will explain this to you.
Yes. The standard Shradh procedure includes offerings for up to three generations on the father’s side and three on the mother’s side. If you have specific additional ancestors you wish to include, please discuss this with our team at the time of booking — it can usually be accommodated within the same ceremony.
The most auspicious time is the Pitru Paksha fortnight in the Hindu month of Bhadrapada. However, Shradh performed at a Ganga tirtha carries merit throughout the year. Other auspicious times include the death anniversary (tithi) of the departed, Amavasya (new moon days), and major ekadashis. Our team can advise you on the most suitable date for your specific situation.
