How many pindas are offered during Pind Daan?

The standard number is three — one for the father (or immediate deceased), one for the paternal grandfather, and one for the paternal great-grandfather. In extended rites, pindas are also offered for the mother’s side, maternal grandparents, and ancestors whose names are unknown.
