What is the complete story of Vrinda and Lord Vishnu according to the Puranas?

The story is narrated in the Skanda Purana, Linga Purana, and Brahma Vaivarta Purana. Jalandhara was born from the fierce brilliance of Lord Shiva’s third eye cast into the ocean, and grew into an invincible Asura emperor who defeated Brahma, the Devas, and even Vishnu. His invincibility was directly tied to the chastity of his wife Vrinda, daughter of the Asura Kalanemi. During Shiva’s war with Jalandhara, Parvati instructed Vishnu to violate Vrinda’s chastity so that Shiva could defeat him. Vishnu used his power of illusion (Maya), disguised himself as an ascetic, and created the illusion of Jalandhara’s severed head, then pretended to resurrect him. Deceived, Vrinda embraced the false Jalandhara. With her chastity broken, Shiva beheaded Jalandhara with the Sudarshana disc, ending the war.
