How does the Gayawal Panda determine which ancestors to invoke during Pind Daan?

The Gayawal Panda uses several methods to determine which ancestors to invoke: (1) The bahi records show all previously-known ancestors whose Pind Daan has already been performed, (2) The current performer provides names of recently-departed relatives (parents, grandparents) and their death tithis, (3) For unknown ancestors, the Sankalpa includes all “unmarked pitras” (the generic phrase for ancestors whose names are lost), (4) The gotra invocation automatically ensures all paternal lineage ancestors receive offerings. The Pind Daan ceremony traditionally covers: the recently-departed (primary target), paternal ancestors up to 7 generations (Sapta Pitri), maternal ancestors (Matru Pitra), and all unmarked ancestors of the lineage (for comprehensive liberation).
