However, you would miss two significant benefits: (1) The ancestral bahi records that trace your family’s history and previous pilgrimages are held by specific Gayawal Panda families — these records may be the only link to your deep ancestry, (2) The Gayawal Pandas know the specific vedi-by-vedi ritual sequence that maximises the scriptural merit of Gaya Pind Daan. Most serious pilgrims engage a Gayawal Panda for the depth of tradition. If you prefer independent Vedic observance, you can hire non-Gayawal Vedic pandits who perform the ritual with scriptural correctness but without the historical lineage connection.
