What happens to the ancestors after Pind Daan is completed at Gaya?

According to the Garuda Purana and Vayu Purana, the transformation of ancestors after Gaya Pind Daan follows a specific sequence: (1) Souls in the Preta state (wandering ghosts) are released and granted a subtle body (sukshma sharira) worthy of the ancestral realm, (2) Ancestors in the Pitru Loka receive the pindas as nourishment and advance to higher realms, (3) Ancestors afflicted by unresolved karma (from sins, curses, or missed rituals) have their karmic burden reduced, (4) Specific ancestors who committed suicide or died unnaturally (if they received Narayan Bali first) attain peaceful liberation, (5) Very advanced ancestors may attain final moksha — release from the cycle of rebirth. The performer and their living family receive the blessings of all liberated ancestors, which manifest as improved health, prosperity, and spiritual growth.
