Can Tharpanam be performed by a daughter or daughter-in-law?

Answered by Prakhar Porwal ·

Traditional texts assign Pithru Tharpanam to the eldest son. However, when no male heir is available, many Vadhyars — guided by Dharmashastra exceptions — allow a daughter or trusted family member to perform the rite, or they perform it on the family’s behalf. Please consult your family Vadhyar or contact us for guidance specific to your situation.
