Ujjain

What is the Simhastha Kumbh Mela and when does it take place at Ujjain?

Answered by Prakhar Porwal ·

The Simhastha Kumbh Mela is a 12-yearly religious gathering held in Ujjain when the planet Jupiter (Brihaspati) enters the zodiac sign of Leo (Simha). It is one of the four Kumbh Mela sites alongside Prayagraj, Haridwar, and Nashik. During Simhastha, millions of pilgrims take a holy dip in the Shipra River to earn liberation. The next Simhastha is expected around 2028.
