Pitrupaksha

What is the correct food to offer during Pitrupaksha Shraddha?

Answered by Prakhar Porwal ·

The Dharmashastra texts recommend sattvic foods: kheer (rice pudding), puri, colocasia (arvi), bitter preparations, and foods made from sesame and barley. Onion, garlic, meat, fish, and eggs are to be strictly avoided. The foods should be freshly prepared on the day of the ceremony and offered with full concentration and devotion. In practice, the exact menu varies by region and family tradition, and your pandit will advise on the specific preparations appropriate for your lineage.
