Pitrupaksha

Is there any benefit to performing Pitrupaksha rites for ancestors who were not Hindu?

Answered by Prakhar Porwal ·

Hindu tradition’s view on this is compassionate: all departed souls need nourishment, peace, and the opportunity to progress on their journey — regardless of the religious identity they held in their most recent lifetime. The Sarva Pitru framework is explicitly universal in its scope. Many families with members who converted to other faiths, or who themselves have non-Hindu ancestors through marriage, have found meaningful value in performing Shraddha for all their departed family members.
