Is it mandatory to visit a tirtha (sacred site) for Panchami Shradh, or can it be done at home?

Shradh can be performed at home if travel to a tirtha is not possible. The essential requirements are the same: proper muhurat, black sesame seeds, tarpan, pinda preparation, and Brahmin bhojan. However, performing Shradh at sacred tirthas like Prayagraj, Gaya, or Varanasi is said to multiply the spiritual merit of the ritual many times over.
