Can both parents perform Shradh for a departed child?

Yes. While the elder male member of the family typically leads the Shradh rites, for the Shradh of a departed child, both parents can be present and participate. The mother in particular can hold the water vessel during Tarpan and mentally offer her love and prayers. The pandit will include prayers for both parents’ peace and the child’s liberation.
