All Pind Daan

Can daughters or women perform Pind Daan as per the Mahabharata?

Answered by Prakhar Porwal ·

The Mahabharata acknowledges womens participation in ancestral rites, and the tradition incorporates Sitas independent Pind Daan at Gaya as a precedent for women performing the rite when no male is available. Contemporary dharmic practice permits daughters, daughters-in-law, and wives to perform Pind Daan — particularly when no male heir exists or when the male heir is unable to travel to the tirtha.
