Is any specific clothing required for Pind Daan in Varanasi?

Traditionally, men perform Pind Daan wearing a dhoti (white or off-white) with no stitched clothing above the waist, or a simple cotton kurta. Women wear a sari. Synthetic fabrics should be avoided as they are considered ritually impure. The color white or off-white is preferred, as bright colors and especially black are considered inauspicious for these rites.
