Is it necessary to perform Karumathi (Subham) with a trained Vadhyar?

Yes, Karumathi/Subham is considered the single most critical ceremony in the 16-day sequence and must be performed by a qualified Vadhyar who knows the specific Dravida Shakha mantras (typically Krishna Yajurveda Taittiriya). This ceremony marks the formal transition of the soul from Preta state to the early Pitri state, and the mantras must be recited perfectly to ensure the transition is spiritually effective. DIY observance by family members is not recommended for this specific ceremony.
