Pind Daan is performed in 10 steps: Vedi Nirman (altar preparation facing South), Rekha Karan (drawing protective line with Kusha grass), Avanejana (base water offering), Kusha Astaran (grass seat), Pinda Daan (rice ball offering via Pitru Tirtha with mantra Om Adya [Gotra]-gotraya [Name]-sarmanah esa pindate svadha), Pratyavanejana (water over Pinda), Sutra Daan (white thread), Pinda Pujan (silent worship), Jal/Dugdh Dhara (milk-water stream with Rigvedic mantra), and Aghran/Visarjan (smelling and immersion). Face South throughout. Use Svadha not Svaha.
