What are the types of Snan prescribed in Hindu scriptures?

Hindu scriptures describe eight main types of Snan: (1) Mantra Snan — purification by reciting sacred mantras even without much water, (2) Bhauma Snan — using earth/mud from a sacred site mixed with water, (3) Agneya Snan — using sacred ash (bhasma), (4) Vayavya Snan — purification through sacred air or dust raised by cows, (5) Divya Snan — through sunlight or divine rain during rainbow, (6) Varuna Snan — the ordinary water bath at home, (7) Vajasnana — using Tulsi, flowers, and Panchagavya, and (8) Manasa Snan — mental/spiritual bath through meditation. Shahi Snan (Royal Bath) at Kumbh Mela is a special form of Varuna Snan performed at sacred tirthas on specific muhurats. Each type has its own scriptural use.
