What if we don’t know our Gotra or ancestor’s exact death date?

If you do not know your Gotra, the pandit uses the default Gotra ‘Kashyap’ — this is the scripturally accepted substitute for individuals whose Gotra is unknown. If you do not know the exact lunar tithi (death date), the ceremony can be performed on Amavasya (new moon day), which is considered a universal Shradh day that covers all ancestors regardless of their specific death anniversary. Inform Prayag Pandits of this situation during booking — the pandit will make the appropriate adjustments.
