The most auspicious period is Pitru Paksha — in 2026 this runs from 27 September to 11 October. This 16-day period is dedicated entirely to ancestral rites and carries the highest ritual potency of the year. Outside of Pitru Paksha, the monthly Amavasya (new moon) and the specific death anniversary tithi of the ancestor are the next most auspicious options.
