All Pind Daan

What is the difference between Pind Daan in Gaya and Pind Daan in Prayagraj or Varanasi?

Answered by Prakhar Porwal ·

All three sacred cities — Gaya, Prayagraj (Triveni Sangam), and Varanasi (Kashi) — are recognized in Hindu scripture as supreme sites for Pind Daan and ancestral rites. Gaya is specifically designated as the Pitrutirtha and is associated with Lord Vishnu’s divine footprint; Prayagraj, at the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati, is celebrated for the power of the Triveni Sangam; and Varanasi is the city of Lord Shiva where moksha is granted to those who die there. Ideally, devout families perform rites at all three cities, but Gaya is traditionally considered the most powerful specifically for Pind Daan and Shradh.
