Which family members should be present for Pind Daan?

The primary performer (Kartaa) must be present — traditionally the eldest son, or in his absence: grandson, great-grandson, wife, daughter, daughter’s son, brother, or other sapinda relative. The entire family (spouse, children, siblings) may accompany but only one person performs the core ritual. If the Kartaa cannot travel, a qualified priest (Ritwik) can perform it in their name. For families living abroad, we arrange remote Pind Daan where the priest performs the ceremony in the family’s name with correct gotra invocation. The ceremony’s spiritual efficacy depends on the correctness of the gotra, sankalpa, and mantras — not on how many family members are physically present. Our pandits ensure the complete ritual regardless of distance.
