Why should Tulsi leaves not be plucked on the day of Tulsi Vivah?

On the day of Tulsi Vivah, the Tulsi plant is worshipped as a divine bride — the incarnation of Maha-Lakshmi marrying Lord Vishnu. Plucking her leaves on this day would be considered akin to injuring the bride on her wedding day. Additionally, scriptures state that Tulsi observes vrata (vow) on Ekadashi and Dwadashi with Lord Vishnu, making these days sacred periods when the plant should not be disturbed. Instead, devotees offer fresh flowers, turmeric, kumkum, and unbroken akshata rice to the plant. Leaves that naturally fall from the plant on Tulsi Vivah day are considered highly sacred and are consumed as prasad with Brahmins in the post-wedding morning rite.
