Pitru Paksha 2026 runs from September 27 (Purnima Shradh) to October 11 (Sarva Pitru Amavasya). From Dubai and Abu Dhabi, Varanasi and Lucknow are just 3.5–4 hours by direct flight — the fastest access to the sacred cities of any country in this guide. Book early as September coincides with end of summer travel from UAE.

Pind Daan, Asthi Visarjan and Shradh from UAE: The Closest Diaspora to the Sacred Cities

The United Arab Emirates is home to approximately 3.5 million Indian nationals, making it the largest Indian diaspora community in any single country. A significant portion of this community is Hindu — from Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, and across North India. Whether you live in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, or the Northern Emirates, India is just 3–4 hours away by air.

This proximity makes the UAE unique among all NRI communities: a Pind Daan trip to Varanasi or Prayagraj requires only 4–5 days of leave from work. Yet many UAE-based families still choose our online service for the annual Shradh and Tarpan during Pitru Paksha — because even a short trip requires planning, and a 45-minute video ritual on a weekday morning is often far more practical.

Prayag Pandits has been serving UAE-based Hindu families since 2019. We have completed rituals for families from Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, and Fujairah. Our service is available in Hindi, English, and we can communicate in Malayalam and Tamil as needed for South Indian families.

Services Available for UAE-Based Families

Pind Daan

Pind Daan — the offering of pindas (rice and sesame balls) at the sacred rivers — is the central ritual for freeing the soul of a departed family member. The three primary sites are Prayagraj, Gaya, and Varanasi. We offer both in-person Pind Daan (when you visit India) and online Pind Daan via live video for UAE families.

The 3-in-1 Online Pind Daan Package covering Prayagraj, Varanasi, and Gaya is ₹21,000 — approximately 913 AED at current exchange rates. This is the most thorough option, ensuring coverage at all three primary sacred sites.

Asthi Visarjan

When someone passes away in the UAE, the family typically arranges for the body to be repatriated to India — this is very common in the UAE, where expatriate workers maintain close ties to their home states. The cremation ashes can be immersed in a sacred river at a later date. Our online Asthi Visarjan service is ₹9,999 (approximately 435 AED).

Alternatively, given the short flight time from Dubai to Lucknow (LKO, 3.5 hrs) or Varanasi (VNS, 3.5 hrs), many UAE families choose to travel for the Asthi Visarjan in person. This is entirely practical as a 3-day trip.

Shradh and Tarpan

The annual Shradh ceremony during Pitru Paksha is the most common service requested by UAE families. Our online Tarpan for NRIs at Prayagraj is ₹5,100 (approximately 222 AED). Shradh at Prayagraj starts at ₹7,100 (approximately 309 AED).

Online vs In-Person: The UAE Has the Best of Both Worlds

No other NRI community has easier access to India’s sacred cities than those based in the UAE. Dubai to Varanasi is 3.5 hours; Dubai to Delhi is 3.5 hours. Given this proximity, many UAE families choose to travel for the more significant ceremonies (first Pind Daan for a parent, Asthi Visarjan) and use the online service for annual Shradh and Tarpan. This is an entirely sensible approach.

UAE–India Time Difference: Almost None
The UAE (Gulf Standard Time, GST) is only 1.5 hours behind Indian Standard Time (IST). This is the smallest time difference of any country in this guide. Morning rituals at 7 AM IST are 5:30 AM UAE time — a very early start, but very manageable. Most UAE families join at 9 AM IST / 7:30 AM UAE, which is before the working day begins. Evening rituals can also be arranged at 6 PM IST / 4:30 PM UAE.

Travel Guide: Flying from UAE to India’s Sacred Cities

Direct Flights from UAE to Sacred Cities

The UAE has some of the best direct connectivity to Indian tier-2 cities of any international hub. Emirates, Air Arabia, IndiGo, SpiceJet, and Air India Express all operate routes relevant to pilgrimage travel:

  • Dubai (DXB) → Varanasi (VNS): IndiGo and Air India Express operate direct flights, approximately 3.5 hours. This is the most convenient route for Pind Daan and Asthi Visarjan at Varanasi and Prayagraj (Prayagraj is 120 km from Varanasi by road).
  • Dubai (DXB) → Lucknow (LKO): IndiGo and Air Arabia, approximately 3.5 hours. Lucknow is 200 km from Prayagraj by road (3 hrs), making this a good option for Prayagraj rituals.
  • Dubai (DXB) → Patna (PAT): IndiGo, approximately 3.5–4 hours. Patna is 110 km from Gaya — the closest major airport for Pind Daan at Gaya. This is the best route if Gaya is your primary destination.
  • Dubai (DXB) → Delhi (DEL): Emirates, Air India, IndiGo — multiple daily flights, approximately 3.5 hours. Delhi connects to all sacred cities by domestic flight (1.5 hrs to Varanasi, 1 hr to Patna) or overnight train.
  • Abu Dhabi (AUH) → DEL or BOM: Etihad Airways operates direct flights. Abu Dhabi to Delhi is approximately 3.5 hours.

Approximate round-trip airfare (economy class, booked 3–4 weeks ahead): 800–1,500 AED from Dubai or Abu Dhabi to Varanasi/Lucknow/Patna.

Visa Requirements from UAE

Indian nationals holding a UAE residence visa (the majority of the Hindu community in UAE) travel on their Indian passport — no visa required. For non-Indian nationals of Indian origin holding UAE residence, an OCI card grants visa-free entry to India. For expatriates of other nationalities, apply for an Indian e-Visa at indianvisaonline.gov.in at least 4 business days before travel.

The Four Sacred Cities

Prayagraj — Triveni Sangam

At the confluence of Ganga, Yamuna, and the invisible Saraswati, Prayagraj holds the title of Tirthraj — the king of all tirthas. Pind Daan here grants the soul liberation from the cycle of rebirth. Learn about Pind Daan at Prayagraj’s Triveni Sangam.

Varanasi — Closest Major Airport to Prayagraj

Varanasi is directly connected to Dubai by IndiGo, and from there, Prayagraj is 120 km by road (2 hours). Varanasi itself is one of the greatest sites for Pind Daan and Asthi Visarjan. For UAE families, flying DXB–VNS and covering both cities in a single trip is highly recommended. Learn about Asthi Visarjan at India’s sacred cities.

Gaya — Accessed via Patna Airport

Gaya is served by Gaya International Airport (GAY), which has direct flights from Dubai with Air Arabia. Alternatively, fly DXB–PAT (Patna) and drive 110 km to Gaya. The Vishnupad Temple and the Falgu River are the heart of the Pind Daan tradition. Read about Pind Daan at Gaya.

Haridwar — 4 Hours from Delhi

Haridwar is best reached via Delhi — fly DXB–DEL (3.5 hrs) and then take the Shatabdi Express (3.5 hrs by train) or a taxi. The Har ki Pauri ghat is where Tarpan and Asthi Visarjan ceremonies are performed at the Ganga’s edge.

Why UAE Hindu Families Choose Us

The Indian community in the UAE is vast and varied. We have served families from Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, and across North India — each with their own regional ritual traditions and specific mantras. Our pandits are trained to adapt to these regional variations. We do not use a generic script; the ritual is performed correctly for your gotra and your family’s tradition.

Given the UAE’s small time difference with India, many families find our service extremely convenient — the ritual can be done before the working day begins in Dubai, and the documentation arrives by afternoon. For Pitru Paksha, we serve UAE families as a priority given the short booking lead time required for this community compared to others further away.
