All Pitrudosh Nivaran

How frequently should Pitrudosh Nivaran be performed?

Answered by Prakhar Porwal · · Reviewed Apr 11, 2026

Pitrupaksha, the 16-day ancestral fortnight in the Hindu calendar (typically September-October), is considered the most auspicious time for Pitrudosh Nivaran. However, performing Tarpan on every Amavasya (new moon day) throughout the year keeps ancestors appeased between annual rites. Specific tithis matching the ancestor’s death date are also recommended for individual Shradh. Families facing severe dosh effects should not wait for Pitrupaksha — a pandit can perform nivaran rituals at sacred sites like Prayagraj or Gaya on any suitable muhurat.
