Is cremation the only option in Hinduism?

Answered by Prakhar Porwal ·

Cremation is the standard method in most Hindu traditions. Recognised exceptions include infants and children under two years old (typically buried), saints and ascetics (samadhi burial in seated posture), and in some communities those who die of snakebite. Electric crematoriums are valid and widely accepted. The key spiritual requirement is that the body be disposed of respectfully and that the proper rites be performed.
