What are the eight Kutapa items required for a complete Shradh?

The Vishwamitra Smriti identifies eight sacred Kutapa elements: (1) the eighth muhurta of the day (approximately 11:36 AM to 12:24 PM); (2) Khadgapatra (ritually pure vessel); (3) a Nepali or pure woollen sitting mat; (4) silver, which originated from Shiva’s eyes and gives imperishable satisfaction to ancestors; (5) kusha grass; (6) black sesame seeds; (7) cows (or feeding grass to a cow for those of limited means); and (8) the dauhitra (daughter’s son). Iron vessels are strictly prohibited in Shradh.
