Why is Gaya considered the most important place for Pind Daan?

According to the Vishnu Purana and Vayu Purana, Gaya is the supreme site for Pind Daan because Lord Vishnu himself is present here in the form of Pitru Devta. The Gaya Mahatmya states that Pind Daan performed at the Vishnupad Temple liberates 101 generations of ancestors, a merit unmatched by any other pilgrimage site. The divine footprint of Lord Vishnu (Vishnupad) embedded in rock is the spiritual epicentre of all ancestral rites here.
