Who can perform Pind Daan in Varanasi?

Traditionally, the eldest son performs Pind Daan. However, any blood relative — daughter, grandson, nephew, or even a devoted family friend — can perform the rite if no male heir is available. Women can also perform Pind Daan. The Dharmashastra texts make provision for all these cases, emphasizing that sincere devotion is the most important qualification.
