All Asthi visarjan

Can Asthi Visarjan be performed on Saturday, Sunday, or Tuesday?

Answered by Prakhar Porwal ·

Traditional scriptures advise against performing bone collection for Asthi Visarjan on Sundays (Arka), Tuesdays (Bhauma), and Saturdays (Manda), as cited by Yama in the Nirnayasindhu. These days are considered inauspicious for the specific act of bone handling. However, the scriptures also emphasise that when the 10-day window is at risk — that is, when timeliness matters more than day-of-week rules — the ceremony can proceed on any day. For delayed Asthi Visarjan (weeks, months, or years after cremation), families have full flexibility to choose Amavasya, Purnima, Sankranti, or any auspicious day. Our pandits help you pick the best date based on your family’s tradition and the urgency.
