Can daughters or women perform Asthi Visarjan?

Yes, daughters and other female relatives can perform Asthi Visarjan. While traditional practice emphasised sons as the primary performers, scriptures such as the Garuda Purana acknowledge the validity of daughters, wives, and daughters-in-law performing the ritual when a son is unavailable or when the daughter wishes to honour the deceased herself. We regularly assist daughters, wives, and even granddaughters through the full Asthi Visarjan ceremony at Prayagraj, Varanasi, Haridwar, and Gaya. The spiritual merit of the ritual is the same regardless of the performer’s gender.
