Can I carry ashes from Australia to India on the plane?

Yes. Australian Customs and Border Protection allows you to take cremated human remains out of the country. Carry them in a sealed, clearly labelled container with the death certificate and cremation certificate. Most airlines accept cremated remains as cabin luggage — check your specific airline policy. Indian Customs allows import of cremated remains for religious purposes. Alternatively, our online Asthi Visarjan service does not require the physical ashes to be present at the tirtha.
