Can Pind Daan be performed at any time of year, or only during Pitru Paksha?

Pind Daan can be performed throughout the year at sacred Tirthas like Prayagraj, Gaya, Varanasi, and Haridwar. However, Pitru Paksha — the 15-day dark fortnight of Bhadrapada — is considered the most auspicious period because the ancestors are believed to be closest to the earthly plane during this time. Pind Daan performed during Pitru Paksha, especially on the tithi (lunar day) matching the ancestor’s passing, carries maximum efficacy.
