What mantras are chanted during Chaturthi Shradh?
The primary mantras during Chaturthi Shradh include the Pitru Gayatri Mantra (“Om Pitrdevaya Vidmahe…”), specific Yama Sukta verses from the Rig Veda, and the Sankalp mantra that names the deceased ancestor, their gotra, and the performer’s relationship. During tarpan, the priest chants “Om [ancestor name] [gotra] triptim archayami” while offering water with sesame seeds. The pinda offering is accompanied by mantras from the Garuda Purana. A qualified Vedic pandit from Prayag Pandits will ensure all mantras are correctly recited.
