When is the best time for Asthi Visarjan in Ujjain?
Asthi Visarjan at Ujjain can be performed throughout the year. The most significant periods are:
Pitrupaksha (September–October) — The 16-day ancestral rites period carries the highest merit for Asthi Visarjan at Ujjain’s Shipra ghats, as at all tirthas across India.
Simhastha Kumbh Mela years — Ujjain hosts the Kumbh Mela (Simhastha) every 12 years when Jupiter enters Leo. The next Simhastha is expected around 2028. Performing Asthi Visarjan during Simhastha multiplies the spiritual merit exponentially.
Amavasya (new moon) and Somvati Amavasya (Monday new moon) are traditionally powerful days for ancestral offerings at the Shipra.
October to March is the most comfortable season for visiting Ujjain. Summers (April–June) can exceed 40°C. The monsoon (July–September) is warm and humid but the Shipra has strong water flow.
