Why should Tulsi leaves not be plucked on Sundays and certain days?

Tulsi is considered the living goddess and is believed to rest and regenerate on specific days. Scriptures prohibit plucking Tulsi leaves on Sundays (the day of Surya when Tulsi observes vrata for Vishnu), on Ekadashi (the day of Vishnu’s fast, which Tulsi observes with him), on Dwadashi (breaking of the fast), on the evenings after sunset, during eclipses, and on the day of Tulsi Vivah itself (when she is worshipped as a bride). Plucking Tulsi on these days is believed to offend the goddess and reduce the merit of the worship. On ordinary days, Tulsi leaves should be plucked gently in the morning with the right hand, after offering a prayer and asking permission from the plant.
