What is Sutak and how long does it last for Surya Grahan?

Sutak is the period of ritual impurity that begins before and extends through the eclipse. For a full solar eclipse, Sutak begins 12 hours before first contact. For a partial solar eclipse, it begins 4 hours before. During Sutak, restrictions apply to eating cooked food, sleeping, touching sacred plants and idols, and performing auspicious ceremonies. Sutak ends when the eclipse is fully over and the individual has taken a ritual bath.
