What is the significance of Sarva Pitru Amavasya (October 10, 2026)?

Sarva Pitru Amavasya — the new moon that concludes Pitrupaksha — is the single most important ancestral rites day in the entire Hindu calendar. It is the day when rites can be performed for ALL ancestors simultaneously, regardless of their individual death tithis. Even ancestors whose names or death dates are unknown can be addressed on this day. The Triveni Sangam at Prayagraj is considered the supreme location for performing rites on this day.
