All Asthi visarjan

Which day of the week is good or bad for Asthi Visarjan?

उत्तर दिया Prakhar Porwal ·

According to Yama as cited in the Nirnayasindhu, bone collection and Asthi Visarjan should ideally be avoided on Sundays (Arka), Tuesdays (Bhauma), and Saturdays (Manda) — these days are considered inauspicious for handling the deceased’s remains. Amavasya (new moon), Purnima (full moon), and Sankranti days are considered particularly auspicious, as are Mondays (day of Chandra), Wednesdays (day of Buddha), and Thursdays (day of Brihaspati). However, the scriptures emphasise that when the 10-day window is at risk, timeliness takes priority over day-of-week rules — the ceremony can proceed on any day to meet the deadline. For delayed Asthi Visarjan (months or years later), families have full flexibility to choose the most auspicious date.
