What happens if Shradh is not performed for several years?

The Garuda Purana and Markandeya Purana describe ancestors who receive no Shradh as being in a state of severe hunger and distress in Pitru Loka. The Markandeya Purana states that neglected ancestors cast severe curses on the living family, resulting in hardships, disease, childlessness, and blocked progress. After three or more missed years, the prescribed remedy is Tripindi Shradh, which addresses multiple generations of missed ceremonies simultaneously.
