What if the child died before receiving a name?

If a child died before the Namakarana (naming ceremony) or without a formal name, the Shradh offering is made with the parents’ names as the identifier. The Sankalp would reference ‘the unnamed child of [father’s name] and [mother’s name], of [gotra] lineage.’ The offering is equally valid and reaches the intended soul.
