Asthi Visarjan & Immersion

Where in Ujjain is Asthi Visarjan performed?

Answered by ·

Asthi Visarjan in Ujjain is performed at two primary sacred sites on the Shipra River:

Ram Ghat — The most famous and important ghat in Ujjain, located near the heart of the city. Ram Ghat is the site of the daily Shipra Aarti (evening river ceremony) and the primary ghat for the Simhastha Kumbh Mela. Asthi Visarjan here carries the combined merit of the Shipra’s sacred waters and the centuries of devotional energy accumulated at this ghat.

Siddhavat Temple Ghat — Located further along the Shipra, Siddhavat is the sacred immortal banyan tree where Lord Rama performed ancestral rites for his father Dashrath. This site is specifically associated with Shradh, Pind Daan, and Asthi Visarjan. Many families consider Siddhavat the more scripturally appropriate site for ancestral rites, while Ram Ghat is preferred for general pilgrim bathing and daily worship.

Prayag Pandits arranges ceremonies at both ghats with experienced local Teerth Purohits who specialize in Ujjain’s ancestral rite traditions.
