Is there any restriction on who can perform Trayodashi Shradh for a deceased child?
Either parent — father or mother — can perform Trayodashi Shradh for a deceased child. If both parents have passed away, a sibling, grandparent, uncle, or aunt can perform it. There is no restriction that only the father must be the karta. In fact, the mother performing Shradh for her child is considered deeply powerful due to the inherent maternal bond. The Sankalp names the child, their gotra (father’s gotra), and the relationship of the performer. A qualified pandit will adapt the ceremony appropriately for the child’s age at the time of passing.
