What is special about Magha Nakshatra in relation to Shradh?

Answered by Prakhar Porwal ·

Magha Nakshatra is ruled by the Pitrus (ancestors) themselves, making it the most directly connected nakshatra to ancestral rites. The deity of Magha Nakshatra is “Pitrigan” — the collective ancestral spirits. When an ancestor passes away while the Moon is transiting through Magha Nakshatra, their soul is believed to have a strong connection with the Pitru Loka. Performing Shradh on the designated Magha day during Pitrupaksha honours this cosmic link and is said to bring deep satisfaction to the departed soul.
