Which ritual is most important after an Akal Mrityu (untimely/sudden death)?

Answered by Prakhar Porwal ·

The single most important ritual after Akal Mrityu is Narayan Bali Puja (also called Narayan Nagbali) — an expiatory death rite specifically prescribed by the Garuda Purana for Durmaran (unnatural death). Narayan Bali spiritually cleanses the taint of the unnatural death, releases the soul from the Antariksha trapped state, and grants it eligibility to receive subsequent Shraddha and Pind Daan offerings. After Narayan Bali, standard rituals — Pind Daan, Shraddha, Tarpan, and annual death-tithi observances — can proceed normally. Narayan Bali is typically performed at Prayagraj, Trimbakeshwar (near Nashik), Gokarna, or Haridwar. The ceremony takes 3 days and involves specific Vedic mantras invoking Lord Narayana (Vishnu) to accept the symbolic rebirth of the deceased. Our Narayan Bali package at Prayagraj is priced at ₹41,000.
