Why perform Pind Daan at Gaya

Gaya is revered as the supreme tirtha for pitru moksha — the liberation of ancestors. Its sanctity is established in the Vayu Purana and Agni Purana (Gaya Mahatmya) and in the Garuda Purana. The Gaya Mahatmya guides the rite across three sacred sites:

• Phalgu river — where Tarpan (water libations) begins; the Phalgu is revered as the liquid form of Adigadadhara (Vishnu).
• Vishnupad temple — enshrining the footprint of Lord Vishnu; offering pindas here releases the ancestors.
• Akshayavat — the undying banyan, where the shraddha concludes for imperishable merit.

How your package is performed

After a brief sankalp with your family name, gotra and ancestor names, the pandit performs Tarpan (water libations) at the Phalgu river, then conducts the full Pind Daan at the Akshayavat — the eternal banyan within the premises of the Vishnupad temple. Every offering follows the Gaya Mahatmya vidhi, and all samagri is arranged for you.

The Silver Gaya Pind Daan package covers the full rite with a comfortable stay and private transfers. For a fuller observance with a Brahmin Bhoj and a dedicated Shradh Pooja, choose the Gold package; for a 4-star stay with Gau Daan, see the Platinum package. You can also book the standalone Pind Daan in Gaya on its own.

Your stay, travel and confirmation

Your stay is a one-night hotel booking for two guests on a room-only (European Plan) basis; meals, train or flight tickets to and from Varanasi and personal expenses are not included. A private sedan handles your Gaya transfers from Varanasi and local movement on the ceremony day. After you book, our team confirms your dates, collects the family names and gotra for the sankalp, and shares the pandit and itinerary details. Photographs and a short video of the rite are shared with your family afterwards, so relatives who could not travel can still witness the ceremony.
