“Pitru dosh nivaran puja” is not one ceremony — it is whichever ancestral rite your family has left undone. Prayag Pandits performs all of them at Prayagraj, Gaya, Varanasi and Haridwar. Tell us on WhatsApp what has and has not been performed and a pandit will say which applies, including when the answer is the ordinary shradh.

There is no single ceremony called pitru dosh nivaran puja. The phrase covers whichever ancestral rite a family has missed, and the honest answer to “what does it cost” depends entirely on which that is — from ₹5,100 for tarpan to ₹31,000 for Narayan Bali. What decides it is not the severity of a chart reading. It is what was and was not performed.

The four rites, and which applies

What “pitru dosh nivaran” actually means in each case
RiteFromWhen this is the one you need
Tarpan₹5,100The ongoing observance. Monthly, at amavasya, through Pitru Paksha. Not a remedy so much as the thing that should have been happening
Shradh and pind daan₹7,100The baseline, and for most families the whole answer. The rites that were owed and missed, performed properly once and then kept annually
Tripindi shradh₹21,000Where annual shradh has lapsed for three years or more. Addresses three generations at once
Narayan Bali₹31,000Only where a death in the line was unnatural — accident, suicide, snakebite, drowning — or the last rites were never performed

Regular prices outside the seasonal windows are ₹41,000 for Narayan Bali in person and ₹46,000 online; the online ceremony is ₹35,000 in season. Tripindi is ₹22,000 online. Everything covers samagri, dakshina, ghat booking and the written record, and nothing is added on the day.

The four questions that decide it
Ask your own relatives these before asking anyone for a price. When was the last shradh performed? Were the ashes ever immersed? Did anyone in the line die unnaturally? Was sapindikarana completed after the last death? Those four answers select the rite, they cost nothing, and a pandit worth booking will ask you them before quoting. If the first thing you are asked for is a birth date and the second is a payment, go elsewhere.

What pitru dosh is, briefly

The Jyotish tradition reads it in a chart when the ninth house or the Sun is afflicted by Rahu, Ketu or Saturn, and the classical understanding is that ancestral rites left undone pass down as an obstruction until they are performed. It is framed as an unpaid obligation rather than a curse, and the remedy is to pay it — which is why the table above is a list of ordinary rites and not of special transactions.

The fuller treatment, including the chart combinations and what the texts actually describe, is in pitra dosh: what a chart reading means.

What we will not attribute to this
Pages on this subject commonly list infertility, miscarriage, depression that has not responded to treatment and illness doctors have not explained as signs of ancestral affliction. We do not make those claims. Those are exactly the situations where someone most needs to stay in medical care, and a ritual explanation is how a person stops going back. Perform the ancestral rites if they are owed — they are owed on their own terms. Not instead of a doctor.

The parts that cost nothing

They are part of the prescription and a pandit who mentions only the paid options is not giving you all of it: feeding a crow, a cow and a dog; anna daan; keeping the annual tithi even when you cannot travel; and the Pitru Gayatri and Mahamrityunjay mantras. For many families who arrive worried about this, the honest answer is that they should keep the annual shradh they have been missing, and nothing else.

Most Booked

🙏 Shradh and Pind Daan at the Sangam

Starting from ₹ 7,100 per ancestor
  • A pandit asks what your family has missed before quoting anything
  • Tarpan ₹5,100 · pind daan ₹7,100 · tripindi ₹21,000 · Narayan Bali ₹31,000
  • All samagri, ghat booking and dakshina included — nothing added on the day
  • Live video link and a written record for families abroad

Where a death in the family was sudden or violent, start at akal mrityu rather than here — the tradition prescribes a different rite before the ordinary ones resume.
